Professor Sumimoto’s Paper Receives PDCAT2022 Best Paper Award
28 Nov. 2022
A conference paper “A System-Wide Communication to Couple Multiple MPI Programs for Heterogeneous Computing” by Prof. Shinji Sumimoto et al. at the Information Technology Center, The University of Tokyo has been selected for the Best Paper Award of the Software Systems and Technologies Track at the 23rd International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing, Applications and Technologies (PDCAT ’22), to be held December 7-9 at the Aobayama Campus of Tohoku University.
Professor Sumimoto says “Our research and development targets of h3-Open-BDEC aim to realize the fusion of S (simulation) + D (data processing) + L (learning). In h3-Open-BDEC, it is important to be able to easily exchange information between systems with different processors and network configurations without being aware of heterogeneity. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of our programs h3-Open-SYS/WaitIO and h3-Open-UTIL/MP that we have developed for efficient information exchange and evaluated their effectiveness in Wisteria/BDEC-01 which consist of two heterogeneous systems with CPU system and CPU+GPU system. As the number of heterogeneous computer systems increases in the future, the need for such programs is expected to increase even more. I believe that the work that we developed and tested in an actual working system Wisteria/BDEC-01, which is a pioneer in this field, was highly evaluated. We will continue to improve the system to be more efficient and easier to use.”
